ISLAMABAD -- At least eight security men were killed and several others were injured in a suicide attack near a check post in Pakistan's tribal region on Sunday, local television reported.

The blast occurred near a check post in Jandola, a town of South Waziristan tribal agency on the Afghan border, according to Geo TV channel.

Sources said that the blast rocked the entire area and was heard far and wide because of the intensity.

There is no further information about the incident, and no group claimed responsibility for the attack.

South Waziristan tribal agency is a stronghold of Pakistani Taliban leader Baitullah Mehsud.
