SEOUL -- The South Korean government said Thursday that it has hired a private agency to promote major government polices abroad for the purpose of avoiding miscommunication and "biased reports" about the country's economy.

The Finance Ministry, the Bank of Korea and the Financial Services Commission recently signed a three-month contract with News Communications, which will provide a weekly English-language report to provide information including government plans to foreign media.

The move follows the recent complaints from the South Korean government about "incorrect" information and "biased views" of the country's economic situation in some overseas reports.

This is the first time South Korea's central government has commissioned a private agency to handle policy promotion.
