Two Americans confirmed dead in Mumbai terror attacks

WASHINGTON -- Two Americans who were working on a meditation program in Mumbai, India, have been confirmed dead in the terror attacks at the city, said the program runner on Friday.

According to a statement released by the Synchronicity Foundation, Alan Scherr, 58, and his 13-year-old daughter Naomi were killed in the attacks.

The US State Department also confirmed the two deaths on Friday morning.

The statement said that Scherr and his family were from Faber, Virginia, where they had been involved in the Synchronicity for more than a decade.

Bobbie Garvey, a spokeswoman for the organization, said that the victims, who were among 25 participants in a spiritual program in the city, were in a cafe in the Oberoi hotel on Wednesday night when the attacks were waged.

Four others in the group were wounded on the spot, including two women from Tennessee, he said.

More than 140 have been killed and almost 400 others injured in the two-day attacks and standoff targeting Westerners, according to Indian officials.
