SINGAPORE - Singapore Airlines (SIA) said on Tuesday it will continue its twice-daily flights between U-Tapao in Bangkok and Singapore until Friday.

The carrier will decide later in the week whether to continue the extra flights on the weekend, it said in a statement.

In addition, its regional wing Silk air is increasing its capacity on the Phuket route for the rest of this week and into the weekend.

By the end of this week, SIA and Silk air would have added over 15,000 seats in and out of Thailand to help customers stranded by the closure of Suvarnabhmui International Airport.

SIA also advised those trying to leave Thailand who are able to travel overland to Phuket to contact the airline to book a seat from there, rather than trying to use U-Tapao.

"The facilities at U-Tapao are struggling to cope with very high demand, and this is causing delays to flights," said the statement.

Meantime, SIA said the Boeing 777-200 that was grounded in Bangkok when the airport was seized by protestors returned to Singapore on Monday night. The flight was not allowed to carry passengers.
