The coalition says in a Friday statement the raid in Kandahar province targeted a bomb-maker responsible for roadside bomb attacks that have killed NATO soldiers.

Militants barricaded themselves inside an Afghan home during the operation Thursday and opened fire on the coalition forces. The statement says after giving time to allow women and children to leave the soldiers returned fire.

Coalition forces found dozens of land mines, grenades, AK-47s and bomb-making materials during a search of the home.
