Fourteen people, including participants in the series, were inside the building when it collapsed in the early hours of the morning, Rustavi-2 television reported.

Most were safely evacuated, but two members of the technical crew failed to escape. Their bodies were found after several hours of searching through the rubble, Temur Giorgadze, the head of Tbilisi's emergency services, told AFP.

It has not been determined what caused the accident.

Modelled on similar programmes elsewhere in Europe, "Star Academy" chronicles the lives of 14 performers living together and performing concerts each week to win the right to stay in the house.
