Noppadon also confirmed that Thaksin is bidding to purchase Sveti Nikola Island near Budva since Thaksin has seen the potential that the island could be developed into a tourist destination.

Thailand and Montenegro have established diplomatic relations since late 2007, but neither country has had an embassy or consulate in the other country. Thailand's ambassador in Budapest is currently accredited to represent Thailand in Montenegro.

Thaksin was ousted by the military coup in September, 2006, in accusation of corruption, keeping him in exile since then. Thaksin returned to Thailand in February, 2008, to face corruption charges, but he later fled into exile again and was convicted in absentia.
