ALGIERS: The recent clash between local Algerians and Chinese businessmen in the capital Algiers was an isolated security issue,  the Chinese embassy said Tuesday.

The Chinese side trusts that Algerian police could deal with Monday's incident, which took place in the eastern district of Bab Ezzouar, according to law, said the embassy.

The Chinese and the Algerians have long maintained traditional friendship and cooperation remains the thrust of bilateral relations, it said.

It is hoped that foreign media could take an objective approach in reporting the incident, the embassy said.

The Chinese authorities have always required the Chinese firms and citizens in Algeria to do business according to law, respect local customs, and stay in harmony with the local residents.

Actions of some individuals by no means represent the attitude of the Chinese or Algerian people, said the embassy.
