Maj. David Hontiveros, a local military spokesman, said the blast occurred at around 23:40 Wednesday local time (1540 GMT) in the village of Tubig Puti, Luuk town of Sulu province.

Hontiveros said the injured were hospitalized and investigators have yet determined the suspects and the motive behind the blast.

Sulu is a known hot-bed of al Qaida-linked local militant group Abu Sayyaf. The 340-member group is blamed for the most deadly terrorist attacks and kidnapping-for-ransom activities in the Philippines over the past decade.
