Two French fighter planes crash

PARIS: Two fighter planes belonging to French navy crashed Wednesday afternoon during exercise, with one pilot surviving and the other still missing, French navy said in a statement.

The two Rafale fighter jets had one pilot on each before they crashed into the Mediterranean, east of the French city of Perpignan, at around 6 pm during their test flight, the statement said.

One pilot have been saved from the sea while the whereabouts of the other is unknown yet. The authorities have not revealed the cause of the accident.

Rafale, made by France's munitioner Dassault Aviation, is France's most advanced transsonic fighter plane.
