25 killed, 40 injured in NW Pakistan blasts

ISLAMABAD: Twenty-five people were killed and more than 40 others injured in blasts in northwest Pakistan on Monday, local TV channels reported.

The blasts occurred near a security forces convoy in Tehsil Alpuri of Shangla, North West Frontier Province, the private TV channel DAWN News reported. Several other militants who hid in the nearby area came out and started firing on the convoy after the blasts.

According to initial reports, 25 people were killed and the injured have been shifted to hospital. Security forces have cordoned off the area. The sources feared that causality could rise.

Unannounced curfew has been imposed in Shangla after the incident.

Pakistani President Asif Ali Zardari has condemned the attack. Pakistani Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani has expressed grief over the losses of life in the attack and ordered probe of the incident.
