TEHRAN: Iran's Parliament (Majlis) speaker attributed Sunday's terrorist attack in southeastern Iran to American hostile efforts against Iran, the official IRNA news agency reported.

"The terrorist attack is the result of the US efforts and a sign of US hostility towards Iran," said Ali Larijani, calling it an action in stark contrast to US President Barack Obama's extended hand toward Iran.

The Iranian people rightly doubt the American promises which are in fact against their interests, Larijani said.

Larijani made these remarks on his departure to Geneva for the General Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union to be held from October 19 to 21, the report said.

The attack occurred early Sunday in Iran's Sistan-Baluchestan province near Iran's border with Pakistan, while the local officials were preparing a ceremony in which the local tribal leaders were to meet the military commanders of Iran's Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC).

There were about 29 killed and 28 injured in the attack, the official IRNA news agency reported.
