Pakistan army official escapes attack in Islamabad

ISLAMABAD: A senior Pakistani army official escaped unhurt in the capital of Islamabad when some unidentified gunmen opened fire on an army vehicle, police sources said Tuesday.

The militants attempted to target Brigadier Waqar in his army jeep in sector I/9 of Islamabad, police sources said.

According to eyewitnesses, the senior army official, along with his mother and driver, narrowly escaped the attack whereas offenders have managed to flee from the scene.

An assailant was waiting for 15 minutes outside the army official home to launch the terrorist strike, witnesses said.

The police troops have cordoned off the entire area, meanwhile, the security of the area has been beefed up.

Police have kicked off search operation against the unknown attackers, police sources said.
