Death toll in Peshawar blast hits 11

PESHAWAR, Pakistan: The death toll in the blast outside a local court in northwest Pakistan's Peshawar on Monday has risen to 11, while 44 others were injured, police sources said.

The blast occurred at the main entrance of Sessions Court of Peshawar, the capital of North West Frontier Province. According to earlier reports, six persons were killed in the blast.

Sources said that five people succumbed to injuries while treated in local hospital.

Police officer Karim khan said that it was a suicide attack. One suspected man blew himself up when he was stopped by security men at the gate of the court. Parts of suicide jacket, nut screws and bolts and bearings have been recovered.

Bomb disposal squad said that about six to seven kilograms of explosive materials were used in the blast. Several vehicles caught fire after the explosion, and three cars were completely destroyed.

The relief and rescue teams reached the spot of bombing in central area of Peshawar. The injured, including three policemen and three lawyers, were shifted to nearby hospital for treatment.
