US FBI investigates report of hijacking attempt at Detroit Airport

CHICAGO: The US Federal Bureau of Investigation( FBI) has dispatched agents to investigate reports of thwarted hijacking attempt aboard a plane at Detroit Metropolitan Airport, an FBI spokeswoman said Friday.

According to reports reaching here, a passenger on a Northwest Airlines flight Friday from Amsterdam, Netherlands, to Detroit, Michigan, caused a brief disturbance at the end of the trip by igniting several firecrackers. The incident resulted in some minor injuries.

Detroit News reported that FBI spokeswoman Sandra Berchtold could not confirm whether the incident occurred.

Airport officials could not immediately be reached for comment.

The plane, which landed around noon, was carrying 278 passengers.
