"The blast occurred Sunday evening in Shamulzayi district, when a police unit was on routine patrol," Jilani Khan said. "As a result two policemen were killed and their car was damaged."

He put the attack on Taliban militants, saying the militants want to disrupt peace and stability in the province by carrying out such attacks.

Taliban militants fighting Afghan and NATO troops have yet to make comments.
