The victim, Bommex Sula, 37, was heading home from a meeting in connection with his candidacy when attacked by two motorbike- riding men in the township of Banisilan in North Cotabato, said town councilor Gafur Amor.

Amor said he and witnesses rushed Sula to the nearest hospital but doctors declared him dead on arrival.

Last month, a politician seeking for a mayoralty position was injured and died a few days after he was ambushed in the province of Surigao del Norte.
