PESHAWAR, Pakistan: At least four people were killed and nine others injured on Wednesday when a rocket hit their house on the outskirts of northwestern Pakistani city of Peshawar, police said.

A rocket landed at the house of Haji Amanullah at Banamari neighborhood at 5:45 am local time (0045 GMT), when the people were asleep, the victims' relatives said.

Motives behind the attack were not clear and police said they are investigating.

Militants in the neighboring Khyber tribal agency had been suspected for the rocket attacks in Peshawar in the past.

A part of the cemented house was collapsed, burying the inmates, police said. The injured, several of them in critical condition, were taken to the city's main hospital.

Locals recovered the bodies and the injured from the rubbles.
