"The incident occurred in Barmal district this morning. As a result five persons including four Afghan soldiers and one border police constable were martyred," Zadran told Xinhua.

He also said that it is initial report and the casualties could rise.

Zadran blamed Taliban militants for the attack, saying the militants by organizing such offenses attempt to destabilize security in the province.

Taliban militants who largely rely on suicide attack and roadside bombings to target Afghan and the NATO-led forces have yet to make comment.

A similar attack in the neighboring Khost province killed two NATO soldiers and injured six others on Tuesday evening.
