Japan considers extending sanctions on DPRK for another year

TOKYO - Japan is considering extending sanctions on the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK), including a ban on vessels from DPRK calling at Japanese ports, for a further year, local media reported on Wednesday.

In a meeting of senior vice ministers on Wednesday morning, the one-year extension of the sanctions was approved, and is now likely to go to the cabinet and be formally adopted.

Sanctions, set to end on April 13, were put in place by Japan in July 2006 after the DPRK test-fired ballistic missiles. And Japan imposed a ban on imports from the country following it conducted a nuclear test in October 2006. And Sanctions have been renewed four times ever since.
