MOSCOW - The Russian Foreign Ministry confirmed on Wednesday that pirates had hijacked a Russian-owned oil tanker off the coast of Somalia.
All 23 crew members of the tanker, the Moscow University, are Russian nationals, a source of the ministry said. The tanker was carrying 86,000 tons of crude oil to China, the RIA Novosti news agency reported.
A Russian warship was heading to the area where the tanker was last reported Wednesday morning.
The pirates have not announced any demands to the ship's owner, Novoship Ltd.
