BANGKOK - Four people were killed and more than 50 wounded in Thai military operations to clear protesters on Wednesday, the Thai News Agency reported.

It also said two journalists were wounded and one Western journalist it identified as an Italian was believed dead.

Thai public television reported separately that an Italian journalist was in hospital and being operated upon, although Channel 3 television had said earlier an Italian journalist had died.

It was not immediately clear whether the various reports referred to the same journalist.
