Fukushima nuclear power plant stable

TOKYO - The Japanese government announced Friday the earthquake and tsunami hit Fukushima No 1 nuclear power plant has been stable after nine-months effort to bring the facility cold shutdown.

A cold shutdown means the world's worst nuclear accident since Chernobyl has been under control. Tokyo Electric Power, the operator of the nuclear power plant is going to move on to the next stage of maintaining the stability after cooling down the melted fuel inside the stricken No 1 to 3 reactors.

The Prime minister Yoshihiko Noda to declare Fukushima Daiichi nuclear accident contained at a news conference later in evening.
