CAIRO - Palestinian National Authority President Mahmoud Abbas issued a presidential decree to form a central election committee, Egypt's official MENA news agency reported on Thursday.
The committee will be formed on the basis of what has been agreed upon during the comprehensive dialogue among the Palestinian movements, factions and independent figures in Cairo.
Abbas wrapped up his two-day visit on Thursday to Egypt, where he held talks with Hamas leader Khaled Meshaal on reconciliation talks between Fatah and Hamas as well as talks among Palestinian factions.
"The committee will manage, prepare and supervise the elections and take the necessary procedures to guarantee freedom and integrity according to law," the decree said.
During the meeting held on Thursday in Cairo, Abbas said "the political move over the past few months by the Palestinian leadership bear results when Palestine got full membership in the UNESCO," adding that the Palestinians will step up for the full UN membership.
