LONDON - A teenager was stabbed to death in one of the busiest streets in downtown London on Monday, the traditional Boxing Day, while another man was injured in a similar case later in the afternoon.
The first tragedy happened at about 1:45 pm local time (GMT 1345), followed by the second case took place at 6:20 pm local time (GMT 1820). The man who died at the scene in the Oxford Street was 18 years old, said a Metropolitan Police spokesman via telephone interview by Xinhua.
"It is too early to say whether the two cases were connected," a police officer told Xinhua reporter.
The injured man was soon taken to hospital, and police said he was not in serious condition.
Further information about the victims was not yet available as police are waiting for them to be identified.
Ten people were taken into custody, and two knives were seized for the time being, but the police said the investigation would take time. A section of Oxford Street has been cordoned off.
Oxford Street was one of the most famous and busiest business areas in London. During Boxing Day, thousands of people flocked there for a shopping spree.
