GEFCO, a European leader in automotive logistics, has opened an office in Shenzhen while establishing a South China business area, in order to provide better solutions for targeted customers, Yicai.com reported.

The regional office of the new business area is in Hong Kong, and will be responsible for the business operations of all branch offices in this particular area.

"The South China region is one of the most prosperous places in the country where the market is mature for the automotive and electronic industry. We founded a joint venture with Minsheng Shipping Company in Shenzhen last year to provide all-around logistics services for Changan PSA Automobiles Company. Today, we hope the newly-established business area can consolidate the company's layout in the South China part", said Andrea Ambrogio, managing director of GEFCO China.

GEFCO, based in Courvevoie, France, reported a 45% year-on-year growth in the turnover in China for the first quarter of 2013, according to the report.

Along with the establishment of the new business region, GEFCO also recently set up an overland logistics department in China, aiming to strengthen its road and railway transportation services and concentrate on international railway through freight transport to Europe and Central Asia.

GEFCO entered China in 2003. At present, its business network has covered nine cities in the Chinese inland and costal areas, providing door-to-door sea and air chartering, highway and railway transportation solutions, and logistics solutions for the entire supply chain for manufacturers.
