HANOI - The fifth annual Nuclear Power Asia (NPA) Conference co-organized by the World Nuclear Association ( WNA) opened in Vietnam's capital Hanoi on Monday, said a press release by NPA.
The three-day conference drew hundreds of experts in nuclear power industry from International Atomic Energy Agency, WNA, as well as government officials from state-run agencies and corporations relating nuclear power development programs of many regional countries, according to NPA.
It will provide a forum to exchange specialized knowledge and experience in developing new nuclear power projects, said the press release.
Theme of the NPA conference in 2014 included challenges in post- Japanese Fukushima crisis such as safety solutions, public acceptance to nuclear energy, legal framework, financial issues, project licensing, human resources development and advanced technology application among others.
Vietnamese state-run news agency VNA quoted the country's deputy Minister of Science and Technology Le Dinh Tien as saying at the conference that Vietnam is pursuing consistent policy of using nuclear energy for peaceful purposes, ensuring safety and security as well as nuclear non-proliferation.
