So far there are already many players in the air purifier market, but Asvaintra says it is not late for Honeywell.

"I think the smart home market is just getting popular and wide open right now. I describe the market as a land grab," he says."Every market player has a very different value proposition in this market. For example, Xiaomi is not just making their smart air purifier, but also smart phone and they want to create the ecosystem of software and services. That's a great model, but at the same time, I also think that there's still a very strong need to make sure that the underlying technology of the machine is reliable."

Asvaintra believes that there exists a potential to form partnership among different players because each company may have a different approach and the smart home market is so big.

"There are too many segments in this area, including smart kitchen, entertainment and security."

Also, the air pollution in China can last for a long time, so there is still big market for the company, Asvaintra says. "I'm from the US and when I was a young kid, a lot of US cities like Pittsburgh had a big steel industry and therefore a lot of pollution. This takes 20 or 30 years to change."

Honeywell's previous home environment solutions can help the company to make major breakthroughs in the smart home market, he adds.

"Honeywell has a lot of experience mainly in B2B markets... our core technology can be fully applied in many areas, and we can make them more accessible directly for consumers."
