NEW DELHI - Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi hosted a lunch for visiting British Prince William and his wife Kate Middleton Tuesday at the iconic Hyderabad House in Delhi.
"A royal summer in Delhi! PM @narendramodi receives the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge at Hyderabad House," Indian External Affairs Ministry spokesman Vikas Swarup tweeted.
The second-in-line to the British throne and his wife, who are currently on a six-day tour of India and Bhutan, arrived in the national capital from Mumbai Monday.
They laid a wreath at Amar Jawan Jyoti, a memorial at India Gate to honor soldiers who had died in World War I, and paid homage to Mahatma Gandhi at his memorial Monday.
Later in the evening, Prince William and Kate also attended a garden party to celebrate British Queen Elizabeth's 90th birthday, which is on April 21.
The Royal Couple are to travel to the northeastern state of Assam from Delhi to visit the famous Kaziranga National Park, home to two-thirds of the world's Indian one-horned rhinos.
They will then go to Bhutan and return to India again to visit the Taj Mahal, where Prince William's mother the late Princess Diana had visited back in 1992, before wrapping up their tour.
