Theme: BRICS Partnership for Global Stability, Security and Prosperity
The main agenda for the summit was the creation of a new development bank that may help BRICS economies funding and lending for infrastructure projects and in the long run for risk-sharing in case of global financial crises.
The summit issued the New Delhi Declaration, its Action Plan and the BRICS Report on BRICS countries’ developing prospects, the cooperation process and areas with competitive advantage to enable BRICS countries to play a more important role in global economy in the post-financial crisis era.

Theme: BRICS and Africa: Partnership for Development, Integration and Industrialization
President Xi Jinping attended his first BRICS summit as China's top leader. For the first time, the summit was held on the African continent and the first BRICS Leaders-Africa Dialogue Forum was also held during the Summit. The BRICS Business Council and Think Tank Council were established.
The summit issued The Durban Declaration and its Action Plan, and decided to set up the New Development Bank and Contingent Reserve Arrangement.

Theme: Inclusive Growth: Sustainable Solutions
The BRICS leaders signed a treaty to establish a Contingent Reserve Arrangement for providing protection against global liquidity pressures and an agreement on the New Development Bank, a multilateral development bank intended as an alternative to the World Bank and International Monetary Fund.
The summit issued the Fortaleza Declaration and its Action Plan. The BRICS leaders also met with South American heads of government and state.
