Hohhot, Inner Mongolia’s 'blue Sky City'

Looking out on the city as I transferred from the railway station to my hotel Hohhot felt in the throes of modernization. It was hard to appreciate its lengthy history and the important defensive role the whole area had played against northern nomadic invasions.
