Time to ban plastic bags?

Editor's note: South China's Hainan province will phase out single-use plastic bags by 2020 in a bid to ease pollution, the provincial department of ecology announced on Feb 21. Forum readers share their opinions.

The continued use of plastic bags is a serious insult to the environment. In Slovakia, most people opt to pay a few cents for the plastic bag rather than carry their own reusable one.

Is it a problem with people's consciousness (of what they are doing), it a "don't care" attitude, or a "Can't be bothered" attitude?

One solution is to phase out plastic bags altogether. If Confucius' ethics education is not enough, then strict legislation makes the difference.
