Ashgabat hosted the international forum "Turkmenistan and International Organizations: Cooperation for Peace and Development", which was attended by Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov. Turkmenistan is not only promoting important initiatives for international cooperation, but also takes further actions for their practical implementation. This forum is the evidence of that, stated the president.

The conference addressed issues of joint activities of Turkmenistan and various UN structures, regional associations in the aspect of dealing with global problems and achieving the Sustainable Development Goals. Starting his speech in Turkmen, the president continued in Russian as one of the official languages of the UN.

As the head of state noted, time has proved that this policy aligns with the long-term goals of the UN, the interests of the states and people of the planet for peaceful and secure growth. Berdimuhamedov reminded that it was in Ashgabat a series of negotiations were held under the aegis of the United Nations that played an important role in achieving peace and harmony in Tajikistan and settlement of the Afghan conflict in the late 90s.
