Social media account of Indian PM Modi's personal website hacked

NEW DELHI - The twitter account of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi's personal website was hacked Thursday morning.

"We are aware of this activity and have taken steps to secure the compromised account. We are actively investigating the situation," a twitter spokesperson was quoted by local media as saying.

"At this time, we are not aware of additional accounts being impacted."

The account reportedly sent out tweets asking its followers to donate to the PM National Relief Fund through cryptocurrency.

The account which goes by the handle narendramodi_in was created in May 2011 and has 2.5 million followers.

The posts have now been removed.

The Prime Minister Office is yet to comment on the issue.
