NEW DELHI -- Traffic was disrupted in some parts of Delhi sharing borders with neighbouring states of Haryana and Uttar Pradesh, amidst heavy presence of cops to control the protesting farmers who tried to enter the national capital, Wednesday.

Thousands of farmers have congregated at various inter-state borders to carry out their protests against the three new laws recently formulated by the federal government. They have been stopped at areas bordering Delhi.

The protests have continued for over a week by farmers who demand roll back of the three laws, arguing that they are detrimental to their interests.

On Tuesday evening various representatives of the protesting farmers held talks with the federal cabinet ministers in a bid to break the stalemate. Both sides described the talks as successful, and resolved to continue the dialogue on Thursday.

A senior Delhi Police cop confirmed to Xinhua over phone that various inter-state borders have been shut for normal traffic, as commuters are advised to take alternate routes.
