What's behind Chinese parents' anxiety about education?

I see lots of children from primary school have been sent to extra classes. They often come home at 8 pm and have to finish the homework assigned by teachers. Exhaustion and aversion are often seen in their eyes. Education should help develop their interests instead of depriving them of happiness. The burden on their shoulders is way too much for someone their age. Parents should not push their children too much and insist that good grades mean everything.
