Editor's note: The much-anticipated gaokao, or national college entrance exam is drawing to a close this year. Actually, in addition to the importance of the college entrance examination itself, college applications are also a very important thing for students when the gaokao ends. Between a good college and a good major, which one could be a good life choice for students? China Daily readers share their views.

It has been five years since I graduated. I think I can give some advice to students and their parents based on the development of myself and my classmates around me.

The reputation of a school is one of the most important background conditions that big companies look for when recruiting. Whether a student with the same major can enter his or her ideal company depends largely on the reputation of their schools, unless they are too nervous to speak a word during the interview.

In the eyes of various big companies, a student who has the ability to enter a famous university is likely to have strong learning ability, and this kind of talent is what big companies really need. Therefore, if you are lucky enough to get good grades, it is advisable to choose a prestigious school first.
