Singaporean 'Flying Tiger' veteran pilot dies at 103

SINGAPORE -- Ho Weng Toh, a veteran pilot of the Flying Tigers, who helped China fight against the Japanese invasion in World War II, passed away in Singapore Saturday at 103, according to local media reports.

Ho was born in Malaysia and attended university in China's Hong Kong.

The Flying Tigers, officially known as the American Volunteer Group of the Chinese Air Force, was formed in 1941 and led by US General Claire Lee Chennault to help China drive out invading Japanese troops.

After the Japanese invasion of Hong Kong, he joined the Flying Tigers and flew missions against the invaders as a bomber pilot.

Ho became a passenger jet captain after the war and published his autobiography "Memoirs Of A Flying Tiger" in 2019.

Singaporean Senior Minister Teo Chee Hean paid tribute to Ho through social media.
