Renowned award celebrates forward-looking photography
Poetic images of modest single-storied houses, snow-covered wilderness, bleak winter street scenes and lonely melancholy figures created an eerie atmosphere of a sleepy western town in solemn wintertime. Among the eeriness, portraits of brooding children holding snake-scale stones and a close-up of a snake-skinned human hand unsettled and mystified the audience.
What intrigued viewers more was how the universe came into being in the eyes of the Norgris people — dust coalesced into the shape of a serpent, which curled up to form planets, giving birth to life and civilizations.
As the transfixed audience kept delving into the paranormal encounter that Chen concocted with pictures and texts, they started to question the genuineness of the photos they had just seen.
