Chinese edtech firm Yuanfudao launched its latest AI-powered learning machine on Tuesday, as part of broader efforts to redefine the role of artificial intelligence in personalized education.

The new device, dubbed as Xiaoyuan AI learning machine, is equipped with an intelligent base that transforms it into an interactive study companion. It was built on the success of its previous model, which sold over a million units within 16 months since its release two years ago.

The latest AI learning machine acts both as a tablet and, when docked with its smart base, a robot-like study companion. The base adjusts the camera angle for scanning, charges the device, and includes a built-in printer for paper-based exercises.

Wang Xiangdong, vice-president of Yuanfudao and head of its smart hardware division, said: "Traditional learning tools tend to address isolated problems. But with our AI base model, systemic transformation is now possible. We want to bring children a truly customized learning experience."

The newly-launched machine integrates data, models, logic, and learning scenarios across four layers of intelligent coordination.

It not only detects students' learning gaps with step-by-step grading but also analyzes the reasons behind errors—from conceptual misunderstandings to flawed problem-solving habits.

The gadget also supports large-scale diagnostic uploads by scanning past assignments and exams, moving away from rigid, system-generated tests.
