A sweet harvest in Guangxi

n June, workers in Beilu, Guangxi province, which is known as China’s hometown of lychee, will harvest 20,000 mu (1,200 hectares) of a high-quality type of the fruit called “feizixiao”. This type of lychee is attracting merchants from all over China after the price dropped since last year to 8 yuan (about $1.25) per kilogram.
There are 560,000 mu of lychee in Beiliu, which is the main source of income for local farmers.[Photo/CFP]
