BEIJING -- Chinese stocks ended lower on Monday, the first trading day after the week-long National Day holiday, due to the investors' expectation for the new stocks issuance and the lingering concerns over economic prospects in the second half.
The benchmark Shanghai Composite Index fell 11.75 points, or 0.56 percent, to close at 2,074.42. The Shenzhen Component Index closed at 8,540.08, down 139.14 points, or 1.60 percent.
