Macao population density up to 21,400 per square km

MACAO -- Macao's population density went up to 21,400 persons per square km in 2016, as its waste water treatment volume increased by almost 19 percent, the special administrative region's statistic service said in its latest annual environment report on Tuesday.
Macao's Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) issued Environmental Statistics 2016 on Tuesday, indicating that the land area of Macao measured 30.5 square km in 2016, and the population density went up from 21,100 persons per square km in 2015 to 21,400 persons per square km.
As population went up, the total water consumption reached 86.7 million cubic meters in 2016, up by 2.1 percent year-on-year. Water consumption by the business sector (44.2 million cubic meters), households (37 million cubic meters) and the government sector (5.5 million cubic meters) increased by 2.4 percent, 1.8 percent and 1.5 percent respectively year-on-year.
The report also said Macao's waste water treatment plants had treated an average of 229,521 cubic meters of waste water per day, up by 18.9 percent year-on-year.
