Beijing training course promotes green Belt and Road

A 21-day training course in Beijing for environmental officials from developing countries involved in the Belt and Road Initiative ended on Thursday.

About 30 officials from six countries — Myanmar, Kyrgyzstan, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Egypt and Afghanistan — attended the course, which started on May 19.

The course was aimed at building a platform for promoting joint efforts in environmental protection, according to the Center for Environmental Education and Communications, which organized the course.

"We invited Chinese environmental officials and experts from NGOs and universities to give seminars on policies, laws and management, with the aim to improve exchanges between Belt and Road countries," said Jia Feng, director of the center, which is part of the Ministry of Environmental Protection.

In addition, the officials visited environmental departments and enterprises in Beijing as well as Nanjing and Yangzhou in Jiangsu province. 

"The training course was held to introduce our environmental policies and measures, and to facilitate effective joint efforts in environmental protection," Jia said. 

A guideline on promoting the development of a green Belt and Road Initiative through environmental protection was jointly issued in May by China's ministries of environmental protection, foreign affairs and commerce and the National Development and Reform Commission.
