Hanyue still flourishes with folk artistic charm in Dapu

[Photo/VCG] Hanyue in Guangdong province has a history of over 5,000 years, with its origins dating back to when the Han nationality moved from the Central Plains to the south. It was also known as Hakka, Confucian or Handiao music. It remains popular in the province where the folk heritage can be found in areas including Meizhou, Shantou and Shaoguan. In the city of Meizhou, Hanyue is best preserved in Dapu county. It has been practiced in Dapu for over 500 years, and over 100 Hanyue performance sites are scattered throughout the county and its nearby villages. |
