The Japanese cartoon character Gudetama, or lazy egg, which was created by Hello Kitty's developer Sanrio, entered the Chinese market with its début in Shanghai on June 19, 2017.
The cartoon character, originating from a short video program on Japan's TBS television, has attracted a lot of cartoon enthusiasts in China.
Since it launched in 2013, Gudetama has found huge commercial success. The products with the image of Gudetama are very popular among young people. Two books of quotations called Gudetama's Philosophy have also been published.
