Suspect in Chinese scholar's kidnapping appeared in court

Brendt Christensen, who was charged of kidnapping UIUC visiting scholar Zhang Yingying, appeared in court at the federal courthouse in Urbana on Monday morning.
According to the Champaign News-Gazette, Christensen did not speak during the nine-minute hearing other than to acknowledge that he understood his rights.
He will be held in custody without bond until next court hearing on Wednesday.
Zhang’s lawyer attended the hearing with her father, aunt and boyfriend. Investigators haven't found Zhang till now.
