Twenty-seven ancient tombs have been unearthed in Zhong county, Southwest China's Chongqing, during a three-month excavation covering an area of 1,600 square meters.

These single-chamber, double-chamber or multi-chamber tombs were built in the Song, Ming and Qing dynasties. In particular, the unearthed Song Dynasty tomb has typical features of exquisite sculpture. Unearthed relics include pottery, porcelain and bronze coins totaling 38 pieces.

According to an archaeologist, the 27 tombs can supplement inadequate information about tombs and further research on the history of Zhong county.
