Su Hui elected chairperson of Taiwan Democratic Self-Government League

BEIJING -- Su Hui was elected chairperson of the central committee of the Taiwan Democratic Self-Government League at its 10th national congress, which concluded Saturday.
Su, 61, also serves as member of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress, the country's top legislature, and vice president of the All-China Federation of Taiwan Compatriots.
She used to work at the Bureau of Finance and the Bureau of Statistics of Beijing.
Founded in 1947, the league is one of the eight non-Communist political parties in the Chinese mainland. It consists of Taiwanese living in the mainland.
The league will, under the leadership of the Communist Party of China, firmly advocate the cause of socialism with Chinese characteristics, Su said.
It will advance exchanges and cooperation across the Taiwan Strait and promote contact in fields such as business and commerce, medical care and culture in Taiwan to promote cross-Strait affinity, she said.
As a participating political party, the league will also contribute to completing the building of a moderately prosperous society in all respects as well as national reunification and rejuvenation, she said.
