Police are looking into allegations a teacher in Chenzhou, Hunan province, whipped a fourth-grade student 100 times with a piece of bamboo.
The suspect, surnamed Huang, 20, was fired from Yuefeng Village Central School in Beihu district after the family of one student accused him of child abuse, according to Xiaoxiang Morning News.
The alleged victim, a boy identified only as Jun, was taken to hospital after his sister noticed wounds to his rear and lower back on Thursday.
His family say Huang, a math teacher, made Jun remove his trousers in class on Tuesday and whipped him with a bamboo stick as punishment for not completing his homework. This happened again the following two days, they say.
Jun’s parents are migrant workers in other cities, and the boy lives with his grandparents and uncle, according to the report.
Another student said nearly all 49 students in the class — mostly 10 and 11 year olds — have been beaten by Huang.
